Story
Our family is organizing this fundraiser to help Marina through one of the hardest moments of her life.
Marina has recently been diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor, and she is now facing a long and challenging road of treatment. The costs of surgery, therapies, travel, medication, and basic daily needs are adding up quickly. That’s why we’re reaching out for support—from friends, family, and anyone who feels moved to help.
Below is Marina’s story, in her own words:
My name is Marina, and I’m a wife, mom, and someone who has spent over four years searching for answers. I’ve been in and out of doctors’ offices, told it was “just anxiety” or “panic attacks.” Eventually, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. But despite ongoing migraines, brain fog, and other symptoms, no one thought to look deeper.
That changed in March 2025 when I began having strange episodes — what turned out to be mini focal seizures. That finally started the process of real testing and discovery.
On April 18, 2025, my world changed forever. An MRI revealed a mass in the right temporal lobe of my brain—something I never expected to hear. From that moment on, everything became a whirlwind of appointments, scans, and decisions.
On May 5, I had a functional MRI to help map out critical areas of my brain—like speech and motor functions—in preparation for surgery. Then, on May 20, I underwent a right craniotomy to remove the tumor at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, performed by Dr. Ziad Hage. Thankfully, the procedure went well, and 90% of the tumor was successfully removed.
Just two days later, I received my preliminary diagnosis: a high-grade glioma, CNS WHO Grade 4. This is a very aggressive type of brain cancer. The pathology showed rapid cell growth (Ki-67 index of 80–85%) and signs of necrosis. I’m currently waiting for final molecular testing results to determine whether the tumor is an IDH-mutant astrocytoma or an IDH-wildtype glioblastoma—which will shape my treatment plan.
Why I’m Asking for Help
Even with insurance, the cost of treating a brain tumor is enormous. I’m raising 35,000 to help cover:
• Radiation and chemotherapy
• Anti-seizure meds and ongoing MRIs
• Travel and time away from work
• Physical and speech therapy
• Daily life expenses during this challenging time
